Undo Problem - answer

Don't know if it's a true answer but I figured out why our systems have been losing UNDO capability. I searched this board without finding any solid answer so I figured I'd throw up an FYI for anyone else with this problem. We're on LDD 2006, BTW.

Seems that LDD itself is the culprit. UNDO works fine (set to Auto, etc.) until you activate an LDD function. The initial load of the program wipes out the UNDO list somehow, as well as the Zoom Previous functions - apparently anything that stores a list gets killed. It only happens on the initial load though, subsequent LDD commands don't interfere. This is why it seems to be intermittent, it's only happening to people when they load LDD and it is only noticed if they need to UNDO beyond that point. This may not be news to anyone else, but I figured I'd thro it up heere anyway.

Question: I seem to recall there being a way to enable/disable LDD loading completely on drawing startup. Anyone who can refresh my memory on how to do that? I seem to recall disabling this a while back for speed purposes. I thought it might be the DemandLoad ARX but that doesn't seem to be it . . .

Later!

jacoppinger,

When you say, "it only happens on the initial load" it get's me wondering
how you start LDD. Do you use a windoz icon or do you load the menu or cui
within the program?

If you don't want LDT to run use the Land Enabled Map icon.

jacoppinger now of course I've not got LDT 2K6 to try this on at the moment,
but I can tell you that in both 2K4 and 2K7 the Zoom>Previous works no-sweat
for me.

It's usually the 1st command for me, since my MNL file automatically
performs a Zoom>Extents as part of the initial load of a dwg file. That way
I can immediately see if an XREF has had it's Path changed.

And Zoom>Previous would always start out with no "memory" anyway, if you get
my drift. 😉

Yup, I get your drift! 🙂

Let me see if I can explain the steps for you both:

1. Launch Ldd from a desktop icon
2. open a file (any)
3. copy, move erase, draw a few lines on screen, zoom to a few different locations.
4. Check your UNDO list - it looks fine. ZP also works.
5. Run an LDD function (Terrain Model Explorer or Drawing Setup)
6. Now look at UNDO and ZP. Neither works (on our systems anyway)

When LDD loads into the file the first time it seems to clear the cache for both functions.

That is strange. All I can offer is the typical laundry list.

Install all updates
Repair

Is your company on Subscription? If so log onto your webpage & create a
support session.

Can your reseller help?

Complete uninstall/reinstall. A last resort of course.

Thanks, John, but I've already tried the reinstall/repair route. No change. It's not devestating, i just need to be sure my people are aware of the issue.

Thanks!

jacoppinger,

I ran into this while using LDD2004. The problem is not in LDD, the problem
lies within the "Intellizoom" function, which is the name of the zoom that
you use with your wheel on your wheel mouse. I tried the same thing, in a
working drawing, when I had the problem. I drew a few circles, lines, did
some regular zooms and realtime pans, did a wheel zoom, and then a few more
commands. I found that the undo stopped after the last "Intellizoom". In
fact, there's an OLD thread on here from me (about 2 or 3 years old)
concerning such. A fresh install should fix the problem.

i am realitivly new to LDT (i had training 4-5 yr ago but haven't used it) i noticed the same thing yesterday. i was working on some files, then all of a sudden, i couldn't undo. the buttons were grayed out too (didn't try ZP).

i was setting up some sheet files for a user. i didn't use any LDD tools that i know of, just Mview, Dview, XR etc...

interesting..... i was wondering hat was going on.
