Line with Text

I'm trying to show sanitary laterals in a utility plan for a big development. We are using a linetype with SAN embedded within the line: ----SAN----. However, some of these lateral lines are showing the SAN part of the line above it instead of with the line. Any reason why? I thought it might be an elevation factor, so I flattened z values to 0. This problem only occurs on some of them, not all

HELP!!!

Make sure that the style used in the linetype definition does not have a
fixed text height, an obliquing angle, or a width other than 1.0, etc.

What about a new line on that layer? Does it look right?

Hey Steve;

Does your firm use Linetypes ByLayer or ByEntity? If ByLayer (I hope), try
the following;

In the dwg file where these Lines exist change all of the Sanitary Laterals
to Linetype ByLayer;
Then set the Layer Linetype to this specially made Linetype you mentioned;
Finally do a Regenall, and you should see what you want.

If that's not the case, then (if you're using Linetypes ByLayer) I would
suggest that you remove the San Linetype from use by the Layers. Change it
to Continuous or another type of your choice. Then click OK in the Layer
Properties Manager. Then perform a Purge to rid the dwg of the San Linetype
definition. Then add the "correct" San Linetype (just in case there was an
old Linetype Definition getting in the way of your current work) back to the
dwg file. Finally set the Layers needing the San Linetype back to using it
again, click OK, and Regen.

Do things look correct now?

I learned that the easiest method of getting "consistent" Linetypes of this
nature, was to use a Style set to Zero Height to create them. Then in the
Linetype Definition file, I would specify this Style, and set their Height
through the use of the "s=" parameter. They have always cooperated, and so I
only need the one file for use in consistent Heights - no matter the scale
of the dwg.

I recently had this problem and had to go and set the text height to zero for all my linetype styles. I do work behind other people and many things can go wrong.

Alright...I have changed the style that the linetype was using from a True Font to an shx. That did not work. The text style that the linetype is using is already set for 0. I modified the layer to use the continuous linetype. Then I purged out the ---S--- linetype. Reloaded it and changed the sanitary lateral linetype back to the ---S---, but that did not change anything either. Did a regenall and nothing changed. Thanks for all the help you have given so far. It is much appreciated. However, the problem did not go away. Do you guys know of any other possibilities?

Can you post a portion of the file?

The only thing I didn't see in your reply was "if" you had checked to see
whether any of those entities had been set to ByEntity instead of ByLayer.
You won't see the term ByEntity - so set a QSELECT for Multiple and the San
Linetype, to see if any of the entities are set that way.

If you find any corresponding to that Search, then you will need to set them
to ByLayer - and then go through the scenario one more time to fully
cleanout any previous "faulty" Linetype Definitions.

It's not the San Linetype, it's the S Linetype that you're having this
difficulty with.

Concentrate your efforts along those lines.

Here's the hard answer:

In your linetype definitions, replace all occurences of text with shapes.
Your problem will go away.

Here is my shape definition for the letter "S"

*21,251,S
4,125,4,80,3,125,3,125,3,80,002,9,(-26,14),(0,0),001,9,(52,-19),(0,0),002,9,(-9,-95),(0,0),001,9,(-34,0),(0,0),002,9,(-26,10)

actually, by using expresstools "explode text" "make shape" and "make
linetype" commands, it is not all that difficult.

should only take a few minutes per linetype, once you get the hangofit.
