C3D 09 ships very soon. The Autodesk website has a link to purchase C3D 09 &
LDT 08 right now.

There is nothing for LDT 09.

A little more time before we can prove if once again, "those who say don't
know. Those who know won't say."

You can now download C3D LDC 2008 from the Subscription site. I don't know
if this means anything. But I find it interesting.

John, my last e-mail to you and Joe was blocked. I think the IT Police
caught me! I'll see if I can get through tomorrow.

I was told personally by Lucy Kunz last August that LDT will continue
indefintely (not meaning it won't go away but that there is no set
termination date).

Because 09 is enhancements (mostly visual) on the 2007 engine there was
not a lot necessary to make another LDT/LDC. The real question is when
the engine changes again (history says 2010 vers) will there be a new port?

While I have absolutely no inside information, I'm 'forecasting' another
cycle being versions 2010, 2011, 2012. That would give them enough time
to make Civil3D comprehensive enough to possibly discontinue LDT/LDC.

2009 versions on C3D 2009 with LDC 2009 and LDT 2009 are now shipping to subscription customers. If you have not gotten them already you will soon.

The definitive answer is there is no definitive answer. The word I've heard from pretty high up is that they will support Land Desktop as long as there is a customer base. Which is a pretty vague politician like answer. Let's face it there are recent posts on this forum from people using 14 looking for help and it's not supported. Personally, my interpretation is that they would like everyone to switch to Civil 3D and dump Land Desktop as soon as possible. They have been actively trying to convince the industry to switch over from the get go. And it has but not at the pace they would prefer. From a application development standpoint, they're better off having everyone switch at once (ready or not, the Autodesk moto), drop Land, let the proverbial ?%#* hit the fan and move forward resolving the issues at hand and eliminate directing resources at porting and supporting Land Desktop. I think it's a matter of how many people are they going to piss off in the process. Had they done it from the start, they would have lost business but They're not going to wait until every last desker has switched to cut the cord either. So my prediction is somewhere between the 2005 release and the 2036 release Land Desktop will go away. I bet I'm right.

Sounds like a politically vague answer. HAHA. Sometime in the next 30 years. From what i've been hearing about 2009, and how incomplete and bug filled it is, i just hope they wait for then a year before the next release. Like maybe release 2010 in 2010. Reminds me of Release 13 and 14. 13 was horrible, 14 was a great piece of software. It was great because of the user uproar about 13, so they hesitantly waited longer to release 14 and "fix" most of the issues. It just seems like one year is too short develop a product as complex as AutoCAD. They need to get off this one 12 month release schedule and let the engineering community catch up to the drastic changes they have made to the software. I have talked with multiple companies that have been training staff and redeveloping their standards since the Civil 3D 2006 release and are still in the process. The switch to Civil 3d is a big jump, that would be like a AutoCAD user trying to work in Microstation. HAHA. It takes time to change the way people have been thinking/drafting/designing for 30 years. Autodesk just keeps coming with the changes, so by the time i've learned how to do something in 2006, they already change the process. I'm done complaining now. Just needed to vent.
