How to Calculate Volume between two surfaces?

Hallo:

I am trying to calculate volume of a landfill (Airspace). I have contours of bottom plane and top plane. Anybody can please help me how to calculate volumes using Land Desktop?

Thanks in advance

Hey smbutala;

To calculate the cubic yards (or meters) produce by this landfill you would
require two Surfaces - Built in Terrain Model Explorer. Usually they are
expressed as Existing Ground (the native terrain prior to construction
activities), and Finish Grade (the user-designed area that produces the
Cut/Fill quantities).

You might spend some time at this site for these regards;

And I would suggest that you access the Land Desktop Help also for your
benefit in handling this (and many more) situation(s) you might find
yourself in.

When you need further answers after your own study, come back and we will
help you figure out alternatives.

read the help file about using the "grid" method.
It is easiest and accurate.

IMHO - that would be the least accurate also.

Composite is my "mainstay". Especially since one of it's "benefits" is to
help point out "vertical data" issues.

See the threads regarding them here;
http://tinyurl.com/nvam6

And of course there are differing opinions expressed there.

I've always found that due to the large differences I found by comparing the
three method's numbers against each other in my past, it made far more sense
to use the Composite - as it was usually the most accurate once compared
with the numbers produced by actual Grading operations.

My $1.98 - inflation has an impact everywhere. 🙂

Not to start over again Dixie, but you could follow the steps that have been
laid out for you in the other thread - measuring volume.

I'm going to lay on you the same thing I did there;

This is found in Help under the following Title;
Calculating Composite Volumes

Use the Composite method to calculate volumes both for a defined stratum and
parcels within the area of that stratum. For more information about the
Composite method, see Using the Composite Method.

Look up those four Blue Underlined Titles, and that should get you started
with understanding what you're attempting to handle - all by yourself.
