DescKey

In LandDesktop 2004, with Projects, Edit Drawing Settings, Label Settings path set to "c:\LandProjects2004\r3468\cogo\DescKey" (this is where I put a copy of a .mdb I made in another project called r3218.mdb).
When trying to select this file under the Labels menu, Edit Label Styles, Points Label Styles Tab, the Name I type in is DescKey Only - r3218 at the top left side of this dialog box. Then at the bottom right side of this dialog box I make sure that DescKey Matching is checked and that r3218 is in the DescKey File drop down list; also checked are the boxes for Substitute DescKey Description and Insert DescKey Symbol. When I hit the"Save" button the message "Unable to save file to disk!" appears. What am I doing wrong here?
I went ahead and ran the batch file anyway and everything plotted on the active level (layer whatever you call it..I'm a former Bentley/Intergraph/Mircrostation user) with no symbols. By the way, where exactly (at what path location) is/are the symbol block/cells that the DescKey uses? Are they in the C:\ProgramFiles\LandDesktop2004\Data\SymbolManager\cogo ? I can't figure out what file the DescKey .mdb is accessing for it's symbol blocks?

Thanks for any insight into this.

John, when you enter filed data manually into LDT it creates a batch file
exactly like the one cwls is creating by hand. There is a command "Run batch
file" in the Survey menu which runs the survey command in the file all at
once. There were many times when we were still entering data this way that
some errors were found in the input data, all we need do was edit the batch
file and re-run it. This creates the points.

Okay, but I don't think LDT knows how to interpret this out of the box,

No, your not following.

The file I posted previously is an example batch.txt file that creates
points.

End of story. That is how points are created.

It has worked in the past with other projects. Maybe this file is corrupted
somehow.

Lets drop this topic since this is not helpful for this problem.

I just tested the example batch file you posted in LDT3. With the exception
of needing to enclose the entire description in double quotes, it worked
just fine for me. All of the settings you checked look good from here, too.
I'm starting to think you may have a corrupt DFM file in the project. But
without access to your complete file system I can't tell.

You know that when you find the problem, it's going to be one of those "Now
how did I overlook THAT?!?" don't you.... 🙂

Good luck!

Thank you very much Jeff.

I hope cwls comes back to see the post & I hope it gets him/her back up &
going.

I would look into the dfm file corruption as well. If prototypes are set up
correctly, the dfm's could be erased. LDT will rebuild them next time the
file is opened with the prototype defaults.
