When you load a custom CUI file where do you load the icon images. All the custom icons that i created have clouds with a question mark in the middle. I have a folder with the images in it but where do i put the images.

Thanks

I have not had a problem with my custom buttons and icons. What I am having trouble with are the standard commands that I have created custom toolbars for. Why use the standard when it doesn't address my needs, right?

Anyway, the icons show up fine in the CUI dialogue but remain Clouds w/ ?'s on the actual toolbar. Any suggestions?

Your Bitmaps need to be in the correct folder for the CUI to be able to use
them MLiebert.

I'm using OE to view the DG, so I'll need to check to see which release of
LDT is being discussed in this thread. Be back in a second...

I couldn't see which release was being discussed, but since you've mentioned
the CUI, I can tell it's a post-2K5 release.

So your Bitmaps will need to be located in the...
C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Autodesk\Autodesk Land
Desktop 2007\R17.0\enu\Support
...folder.

Watch out for the word-wrapping on that Folder name. And of course adjust
the folder name for whichever release you have in conjunction with the CUI.

Once the bitmaps are copied to the proper folder, you will then need to:

Open LDT;
right-click one of the "clouded" buttons;
and then select Customize... from the bottom of the Dialog Box you're
presented with;
once the CUI opens up on-screen, then select the proper item in the
Customization in All CUI Files - upper left portion of the CUI;
you will then see the Button Image in the upper-right portion of the CUI;
click the Edit button below the clouded question mark;
click the Open button on the following Button Editor DB;
in the next Select File DB, get the proper folder open, and then select the
proper bitmap you need;
select the Open button, which will take you back to the Button Editor DB;
now select Save, and then Close the DB;
your clouded question mark is still obviously the button image, and will be
until you find the correct image showing just to the right of it, and select
it;
then click Apply.

The CUI will then replace the button image with the one you just chose, and
you can then select a different toolbar button in the Customization in All
CUI Files to transform to the correct bitmap image. When you've got them all
transformed, you can then select OK on the CUI - voila, you're all done!

It takes far longer to explain, than to actually go through the process on
your PC. 😉

HTH, and I've seen lots of complaints about the CUI process being different
in one aspect or another from the MNS process. It's decidedly growing on me,
and I'm just about to the point of enjoyment using the CUI.

Just about... 😉

Hey MLiebert,

I'm having this exact problem. I have custom toolbars consisting of the Land commands I use the most when creating surfaces. The toolbar looks great in the CUI dialog but then won't show up in the actual toolbar. Did you ever find a solution?

grim back a couple months ago when I still had access to the 2K7 release, I
was able to get my custom icons to "stay" by adding a new Toolbar, as a
Partial CUI - I think.

It's been long enough ago now that the memory has almost faded, but you
could attempt getting them to "stick" through that avenue?

I do recall that I needed to perform a SaveAs for the Icon to remain affixed
though.

HTH

Thanks Don. I'm not sure what to do. The custom icons that I made myself show up fine, because I know where they are all located and I just apply the right path. But the ones that don't show are the icons already created for LDD. I don't know where to find them. Under path location in the CUI it just has the icon name, no path.

I think my problem came about when I loaded service pack 2. My icons were fine until then. I think I remember reading something about saving custom UIs BEFORE loading the SP but in my haste I regretfully didn't save them.

So it doesn't sound like they ever were Bitmaps along their way Jerry?

I come from way back in my use of the Autodesk products, so my Bitmaps
travel along with me. ;0)

So as long as you "get" to re-create them, why not use Paint first, and then
transfer them to the Desker's product?

In that way you'll have the opportunity to (almost) easily load them up once
again.

If you find the cart before the horse in the future?

You know, Don, now I've memorized what all my buttons are anyway from their relative postions, I think I'll just leave things as they are and wait until I load 2008 to figure it all out. What's the word on that release?

See my post on May 2, 2007 titled "Install LDT 2008? Civil Design Companion
2008" and Billneu's post on May 2, 2007 titled "LDT 2008 bug and
workaround." In short, I am going to wait for LDT 2008 SP 1. As for C3D, I
am debating putting it on before the service pack since it appears to be
more stable than C3D 2007 SP 3.

Wow, we're talking SPs for 2008 already. Great. Do the people who work in Microstation have to do all this stuff too? Just Wonderin'. Thanks Brad, I'll check out the posts.

Find one, and ask them.

I would think a likely place to look would be a firm that does a significant
amount of work for a State Highway Dept.

InRoads would be right down their alley, to satisfy my "punster" side. ;0)
