AutoCAD LT

When I try to open an AutoCAD LT file sent to me from an architect it opens with a message stating that it is read only. Can this be protected by the sending designer, or is this an issue on my side? I don't have a server, I'm on a stand alone PC (Windows).

Are you placing the file on your harddrive in a folder then opening it (proper way), or are you opening it in the email message/application (gives you that error message)?

I save it to a file on my desktop. Normally I import that file into my pre plotted sheet. When I import the drawing I will import it as a "Block"

right click on the file on your desktop and check the properties.  It's prolly marked read-only. Clear the check marks in the boxes for read-only and you should be good to go.

The read only box was un-checked, now when I try to import that file as a block the command bar reads, "Invalid"

Might wanna try opening it alone with recover rather than importing it to see if it took a hit for some reason (transfer over inet or whatever).

If that works, open the target file and INSERT it rather than an import.

Open the Read Only file and Save it to a new name.

(Delete the original and change the name of the newly saved file to the previous file name if you wish.)

Does this now Open properly for you without warning?

Semantics: INSERT is the Command to bring a Drawing File in as a Block.

IMPORT is a different operation.

Are yiu using INSERT?

Okay, I tried inserting this per your suggestion. I continue to get an "Invalid" message in the command bar.

If not did you try a Recover per DJ's suggestion?

Can you post the file here for others to try?
