viewport scale field not updating

our field is not updating properly.

[Field via Insert>Field]

[Object, clicked viewport edge; Custom scale; Use Scale Name]

Enter

The correct scale shows. However, when we change the scale of the viewport, the original inserted scale remains the same in the field. We've also used "#"=1'" and "#=1'-0"" and "1"=#'"

Suggestions much appreciated. Our average projects consist of 40 layouts. Doing this manually is a bit time consuming. This used to work, so we're baffled.

Look up FIELDEVAL system variable in LT's HELP, and ensure DEMANDLOAD variable is not set to 2.

This is what I end up with, and have NO clue when it comes to fieldeval. also, "DEMANDLOAD" is unknown in LT.

Command: FIELDEVAL

Enter new value for FIELDEVAL <31>:
