"Large" files creating various problems-help

I'm running LT2000i. My largest file is around 2.8 megs. I have had numerous problems with the file ranging from frequent crashes that don't seem to be realted to any specific activity, commands hung up, and most recently, very jumpy cursor and mousewheel pans. Blocking the drawing and then using the block as the new drawing works, but as I frequently use Groups as drawing elements, losing the groups in the new blocked drawing is troublesome. What is considered a "large" file. I'm working on a sizeable building and anticipate that this file will be perhaps twice as large by the time I am done. Is there any way around losing the groups? (I use groups because they are easily moved AND easily edited. Any info would help. Regards-

Performance in AutoCAD has more to do with your PC specs: what
are they, in detail (Processor, RAM, HD free space, Windows Swap file setting,
video card type and capacity and driver, Windows screen display settings like
resolution and color depth)?

Have you tried to run AUDIT (and answering yes to fix errors)
on the file?

Do you have all the LT2000i patches installed?

What version of Windows, and is this an upgraded Windows
version or the original?

Do other PCs with the same specifications in your office have
the same problems with the same file? Do you have the same problem with other
files?

Another thing you might try: "QSelect" all lines whose length is zero and delete them. Likewise, all texts that consist of only a single space. The Audit and Purge don't get rid of these things, and if you have a lot of them, they may be making your file unreasonably large for the amount of real drawing information it contains. -- J.S.
