lag on 2008lt

I upgraded from 2005lt to 2008lt and now when i select anything to move, copy or edit the program locks up for a few seconds. it gets annoying when I'm editing a big file!

Is anyone else having this problem or is it me?

Is this the same Win2000 512mb RAM P4 system you bought with LT2005? What's
a "big file"? Elaborate please, and provide background information.

Also, LT2008 is a giant compared to LT2005, but it should not be doing so
with basic commands like copy and move.

NIVIDIA NFORCE2 ULTRA 400
WINDOWS XP 2002 UPDATED WITH SP2

that's a P4 2.8 equivalent, low end.
1gig is low-end, 2G is considered acceptable, might help to upgrade this.
Is Video using system ram too?

Great PC specs for 2005, low end for 2008 like the posted system
requirements.

what's a "big file"?

THE FILES AVG AROUND 20-30 MB, BUT DOES THAT REALLY MATTER WHEN EDITING THEM? IF SO WOULD BREAKING THE FILE UP INTO SMALLER ONES HELP ME FOR NOW

Please turn off the cap lock. It is considered shouting.

20+ MB files on four year old technology? Its a wonder that LT 2005 and
your computer would handle those large files. Break them up and xref what
you need or get a new computer. Freeze whatever you can short term for more
speed. Turn off any unnecessary other software except virus protection and
firewalls. In your antivirus, set it to ignore dwg, mnu, cui, lin and other
AutoCAD specific files. Disable digital signature icons.

New computer spec:

Autodesk's minimums are for small drawing files:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=8446799

My minimum recommendations for 2008 LT and your large files are:

Core 2 Duo E4300
3 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT with 256 RAM
150 GB WD Raptor 10KRPM hard drive
If not networked to data server, two more Raptors in a striped raid
configuration. (Add $450)
XP or Vista (32 bit)
Reuse existing monitor

Xi Computers has a similar machine with a better processor (E6750) for under
$1,600 US.

If you want to dream, upgrade to full AutoCAD 2008 64 bit version:

Core 2 Extreme QX6850
6 GB RAM
GeForce 8800 GTX 756 MB of RAM
300 GB 15 KRPM SCSI Drive
Vista Business 64
AutoCAD 2008 64 bit
Two 20" LCD Monitors
and prepare for sticker shock..........$9,300 US!

When spending this kind of money on this kind of horsepower, it helps to
speed up the slowest part (the user) with dual large monitors.

BTW John, why did you upgrade to LT 2008? Can you still use LT 2005? If
you don't need any of the new features and just need to read the new file
format, you can use DWG TrueView to convert the files. Of course, you
needed to get the 2008 upgrade pretty soon as they will discontinue support
for 2005 and you would then have to pay full price to upgrade to LT 2009.

In addition to Brad's advice, also PURGE your file until nothing is left to
purge, and use -PURGE (note the dash) to remove Regapps in your files, use
LT2008's ability to delete unused layer filters too.

Make sure your 20-25mb files are pure content, not dead-weight.

yes i am on single user machine at work, the files i don't like to break up because it gets a little aggravating after the 4th or 5th update and i have all these old files laying around in the folders. I would have to break it down to at least 6 files per job. But it is time to get the boss to break open his wallet its been about 5 years now. definitely time to upgrade. and the reason i got 2008lt was that it was suppose to be able to handle dynamic blocks with ease, well my blocks from my friend who has 2006 full version don't work quite the same in 2008lt.
