Unable to View Mtext properly

The text looks like this when it is in Layout view

LAYOUT-BLOCK-UN.png

What the text looks like when it is selected:

LAYOUT-BLOCK-SELECETED.png

What the text looks like when it is plotted as PDF (using cutePDFWriter) in Greyscale

LAYOUT-BLOCK-PRINTED.png

I want to be able to see the text as it wipeout's the background model and shows the text...similar to the text box feature in Microsoft Word. However I am not sure if the version of Autocad that I am using is able to perform such a function (AutoCAD 2004 LT).

Please enlighten me on how I can view these texts

With 2004, you do have to use a 3rd party PDF driver. and I don't believe CutePDF supports merge control which is what you need I think.

Can you print to DWF instead? I'm pretty sure 2004 came with a built in DWF driver. If so, then you should be able to open the DWF and print to PDF.

I can print to .dwf. However, the same issue occurs..black blocks instead of text masks

In the PLOT dialog, go to the Properties of the DWF driver.
Go to the "Device and Document Settings" tab.
Under "Graphics", then "Merge Control", set it to "Lines Overwrite"
Save, close, and reprint.
Any changes?

The Merge Control under the graphics control had no effect. I tried under the default DWF writer (DWF6ePlot.pc3) and the with the CutePDWwriter...to no avail... My guess is that the AutoCAD that it was designed on was a later version (newer than that of 2004) and when I cadded in 2004 LT, the MText could not be seen due to the missing features.

Can text masks be set in 2004 LT?

Post a DWG file, let' have a look at your Mtext masking.

Hello

Looks fine here, when trying to plot with DWG to PDF.

On the other hand, i'we expereienced a similar issue with wipeouts. In that case the backgrownd color needed to be changed to white.

Note: after backgrownd color change might need to restart autocad.

Hope it helps.
