Problem with dimension using mouse in Autocad LT 2012

I am new in AutoCad . While dimensioning, it poped a window and I selected "distance' and right clicked and entered. The dimension goes away. Is it problem with my mouse or I did not follow the right step. I would appreciate if anyone could guide me.

Explain in a little more detail.

DISTANCE and Dimensioning are two different things.

Also the type of dimension you want is critical: Linear, Aligned, Angular, etc.

You may want to read up a little about Dimensioning in AutoCAD:

http://exchange.autodesk.com/autocadlt/enu/online-help/search#WS1a9193826455f5ffa23ce210c4a30acaf-4c...

Which Command do you wish to execute?

Thank you Charles for your help.

I used AutoCd Lt 2004. After long time I came to the new version 2012. I am still a beginner.

First I drew a line. I selected liner dimension, selected two ends. It showed line dimension on a drawn line in a shaded form. There is a option to select diatance. I selected distance and entered. I tried enter by right clicking  the mouse. I tried with 'enter" from key board. When I put enter the dimension vanishes. After that I could not get any dimension.

Is it mouse problem or I forgot all I learnt in AutoCad. I would highly apporeciate if you could help me on this.

Thank you.

Regards,

Robby

All you should need to do is pick both ends of your line and then pick where you want the dimension line to be; all with the mouse. Left click the mouse to complete the command.

From there you may want to run DIMCONTINUE.

There should not be an additional step to choose Distance.

Thank you  Charles,

I choose two points and the dimenstion appered in the centre. I then left clicked to accept.  It is still in the dimension command. It is not going out. How can I discontinue dimcontinue?

I am close. I would appreciate if you could help me.

Thanks.

Make sure you are using DIMLINEAR

If you drag the mouse around after you have clicked the two end points (don't Left click yet) does the Dimension line move with it?

Left Click normally invokes an <Enter> in AutoCAD

Charles,

Dimension does not move at all after showing fixed dimension on the centre of the line. If I click left mouse + sign of dimensuion comes where ever I click.  When I go to draw another line, the dimension vanishes.  I  had put the comand dimlinear below in command box below as well.

Please help.

Again, what command are you using to dimension? If you don't know, say so and give an idea on what you are clicking on.

Charles,

Please find the attached file.

We just bought AutoCad 2012 a week back. I could not find any direct technical support from Autodesk from internet . Is there a way I can talk to the AtoCAD tech support personnel and try different options while on line. It looks like it is realted to either my software setup or problem with my mouse. ( It is a new computer with new Dell mouse).

I would appreciate if you could help me on this one.

Regards

Robby

Your file dimensions just fine, see attached: I used DIMALIGNED command with your angles.

Dean,

Thank you.

Yes it worked with dimaligned. Great!   I am able to put angle on it.

Next thing , If I would like snap in the middle of a line, I do not know how to do it.

I tried to go and learn from tutorials and I could not find the basics. I am  a new learner although I took 1 week training and  used AutoCad Lt eight years back for few months. May be I forgot it with time.

I would appreciate if you could help me on my above concern.

Look up DIMALIGNED and DIMLINEAR commands.

MID is a snap selection option you can use while in a command to select the MIDpoint of a line: while in a command, hold the shift-key down and right-click to get a pop-up menu with all of your options.

Dean,

I found how to dimension angle. Thank for the great help.

I just want to draw a line by snapping in the middle of  a line. I do not know  what command to put in order to snap and draw a line.

Thanks

The top video today at this link is about dimensioning tips, explore it and the other videos on offer too:

http://www.cadalyst.com/video

There are online tutorials from Autodesk worth exploring:

http://usa.autodesk.com/autocad-lt/training/

And even more in youtube:

All for free: start exploring (and don't worry too much about versions listed, they still apply).
