Password Protect a DWG

Is there a way to password protect a DWG file so that if I e-mail the DWG file to someone that they could view and print it but not be able to change or add any information without the password. Any information would be appreciated.

I don't know of any way to password protect a DWG file.

You may want to sent the "drawing" as a DWF format which is viewable and printable by anyone with the new Autodesk Express Viewer. To create a DWF file select "DWF ePlot" as your plotter and plot as normal. You will be asked for a file name and save location. The person receiving the file can view including pan and zoom and has various printing options available. We use this format almost exclusively when sending "drawings" to other parties as it protects us from them making changes to our drawing. You can get a copy of Express Viewer for free on the www.autodesk.com site.

http://www.cadlock.com is the only solution out there.

Of course you have to ask yourself, if you do not want them to have access to the DWG file, why not use DWF files instead? After all, it is why Autodesk developed the format, and sure it can be reversed into a DWG file if they buy more software, but it's not nearly as good as the hype aroudn the product is.

Same with PDF files if you want a more universal format.

If your contract is to design a
building project for a customer, he is entitled to a copy of the working
files.  He can be restricted by Copyright not to use the design to
construct another building, but the actual project drawings can be used to
provide maintenance, upkeep, or renovation to that structure.

If your drawings are for a tool or
other invention, then get a Copyright, and use what Paul Turvill let you in
on.  Just make sure the Copyright notice is on the drawing
file.
