PSOUT problems

Has anyone had experience with converting autocad files to .eps files? I created masks for microfabrication in autocad.(overall drawing sizes in cm with details in the 10's of microns range) I had to transfer them to .eps format so that they could be opened in adobe illustrator by a graphic arts outfit to print onto transparencies with 5080dpi. When they are printed, the accuracy is lost. Does anyone know a way around this?

What works great for us is to simply select the objects in ACLT copyclip them and then Open Illustrator and Paste them in. But you have to have both programs on the same computer. (Maybe if you have a network liscence or something). Maybe you can copyclip out of a .dwg viewer like Volo view (i don't know).

The objects go into illustrator as a "group" and the AutoCAD background shows up too. In Illustrator the objects can be ungrouped and the background deleted. The objects keep their color from AutoCAD so anything that's white will have to be changed. Then the lines have a very minimal thickness so that will have to be changed too, in order to print.

If scale is an issue, we draw a rectabgle in AutoCAD that is 1"X1" to scale (i.e. 96x96 @ 1/8"=1"-0"). Then in Illustrator I scale that rectangle up to 1"X1"

Not much help if you can't get both programs on the same machine. But definately saves time over exporting, importing, and then cleaning up.

If you can export to a hi-res pdf (Acrobat Writer) Illustrator can open those files.

Hope this helps,
Kevin

We use the 1x1 box to set scaling in Illustrator too, but we
PLOT our EPS files.

Use PLOTTERMANAGER, and set up a new Adobe Postscript Level 1
plotter, then edit the resulting PC3 file and set to plot to file as an EPS
file, white background, and sheet size. Then just use the PLOT command, select
this new 'plotter', and plot away like you usually do. You can even use Plot
Styles and anything else the PLOT dialog box presents as an option.

I don't have access to adobe illustrator right now. Once I do have access, I will then have to learn it. It seems that AutoCad LT2000 doesn't convert all that easily or all that accurately into adobe anyhow. I'm not opposed to learning new programs, but time is becoming an issue. Does anyone know of a company that can take my autocad files and plot them onto a transparency at 5080dpi? I've done some web searches, and scoped out other CAD sites, but am not coming up with much.

Open your local Yellow Pages, and call your local print shops.
Ask at your local Kinko's or Ridgeway's or whatever else they are called in your
area.
