Lt 2000

Does an educational version of lt 2000 have a time limit on it like the current educational versions?

Does this mean you have an educational version? Or are you considering obtaining a CADD program and have seen a used educational version for sale somewhere?

Found a version for sale on ebay, seller claims to know nothing about it that it is sealed and never installed or registered. There is a picture of the serial # on the box and it says educational version next to the serial #.

If I remember correctly, you did not have to register with 2000. But why
buy 2000 educational version? If you are legally entitled to use an
educational version of any year, you can get a current educational
version for next to nothing, and in some cases literally nothing. If you
don't qualify, and LT is too expensive, see if you qualify fo Progecad
Smart. As long as you are not using it for profit, you can use it for
free without having to worry about the "EDUCATIONAL USE ONLY" stamp.
Wouldn't waste my money on an educational version of that age. I'd place
it in the category of an AOL cd, good for making mobiles and otherwise
of little value.

I have the disk for 2000 LT education that I bought in the college book
store. I remember had to register, that was some years ago, and also a few
computers ago. I don't need it anymore, it is not legal to use it anyway,
even though I much prefer that version to the legal one I have now (2009).
It definitely needs to connect to the internet or else be emailed an unlock
code from Autodesk, and the last time I tried to install it I received some
message that it wasn't supported anymore. Good luck getting around that.

Also, anybody can "qualify" for ProgeCAD Smart, as long as it is not used
for business. This software DOES make a similar plot stamp on your printed
drawings if you don't pay for the legal version. Plot stamp reads: "ProgeCAD
Smart 2009 Personal Use Only Not for Business Use"across the very top
margin. I would very much recommend installing this rather than purchasing
2000 LT.

I agree. ProgeCad Smart is a free download (just google it) and is comparable to AutoCAD LT 2004, only it also does wireframe and mesh 3D if I am not mistaken. It should be ideal for someone who is not using it for commercial purposes -- for a home project or to just learn CADD in general. The same company does sell a professional version for commercial use, for under $500. That one does 3D solids!

Check other posts on here. Just yesterday I saw one from Dean that has the current AutoCAD LT for under $600 (after rebate) and is good through the middle of January (don't quote me on that though). They also have that bundled with Inventor LT for under $900 until sometime in January, if you are so inclined.

If you do wish to pursue CADD a bit more rigorously, I'd recommend taking advantage of the current LT special, then getting on subscription. You get annual product updates plus unlimited acces to online training resources, and I am sure lots more that slips my mind at present...

Whatever you choose, feel free to come back and ask us friendly community members for advice, and good luck!
