LT2000i Today error.

Problem:   when trying to open Today window,  error message
comes up :   Internet Explorer:  a script error has occurred
on this page:   object doesn't support this property or method.

I have found that the file InstaFred.ocx,  is not registered in
the registry,  whereas,  the other 2 appropriate files
AcToday.ocx and AcPreview ocx are in fact registered.  This situation
is referred to in several knowledge base papers but I cannot either get
the InstaFred.ocx  to become registered,  and do not know if
it even supposed to be.

I cannot use the Today facility. It used to work fine.   i
have inadvertantly used the " today error handler"  applet,
in an attempt to fix whatever was wrong but it is no good.  I can
find no information on why this has happened and have got nowhere trying
to fix it.

Attempts to fix include:   A complete cold boot re-installation
of AutoCad LT 2000i ,   upgrading Internet Explorer 5.01 with
service pack 2 ,  upgrading to direct x 8.0a ,  checking file
dates of dll's,  version numbers for active x controls etc. ,
checking the latest aclt install log for all of the operations windows
performed while installing the re-install.  Running Norton systemworks
2001 utilities for windows problems.

I am running a clean first time install of Win2K Pro,  with SP1
installed - had no problems at all with this.

The funny thing about instafred.ocx,  is that it is there in the
autocad lt 2000i program folder but is not listed in the registry [ with
either regedit or the regedit32 utilities] ,  but it is listed under
the " downloaded program files"  folder with its clsid / guid number
and listed as unknown.  Next to it,  are the acpreview.ocx and
actoday.ocx  files,  shown as listed and registered.

I have read 3 knowledge base articles on the Today problem but they
have not provided a usable answer.

I would really appreciate it there is anyone out there who has an answer
or could direct me as to what to do next.   Many Many thanks
in advance.  This is like having a good applet / idea which I feel
I have paid for,  but now had ripped off me.....not impressed

David,

You mentioned it used to work fine so something you did around the time the
problem started most likely was the cause. Some possible solutions:

Install the AutoCAD LT 2000i Service Pack 2.

Today System Diagnostics web page http://pointa.autodesk.com/TodayError.asp

Upon entering the diagnostics page it will ask you to accept loading of an
OCX file (needed). If this does not work you can also run RepairToday with
AutoCAD not running. RepairToday.exe is located for download online at
http://betaprograms.autodesk.com/files/repairtoday.exe or it can be located
on an installed AutoCAD 2000i based products at \Product Name
Here\WebDepot\ErrorHandler\.
Run it in aggressive mode. Please note you must launch AutoCAD after running
the RepairToday application and going to the diagnostic web page.

Shaan,

thank you for helping me with the Today problem.  I could not
connect to the todayerror.asp page,  however,  I did run Repair
Today in aggressive mode and hey presto I have Today back and functioning.
Also,  InstaFred.ocx  is now shown as registered in c:\WINNT\down
loaded program Files\...

I was sure that I had already run this in aggressive mode about 3 times....but
I must have been wrong.

Thank you again for your help.  If you at the pub, I'd buy you
whatever you wanted to drink !!!

Cheers.

Wonder why the repair-today-feature is not built into the today-feature?
Then it would repair itself when it gets broken.
Or better yet, a built in keep-today-feature-working-feature.

Conny,

It is built in but it is difficult to deal with all of the things that can
happen with MSIE or the systems environment.
