LT2000 can't find R14 xref's

Hi

All our work (19 000 dwgs todate) is standardized on R14. Some managers etc have LT98(?) to view and print stuff.

The problem I have encountered is we distributed a CD of drawings and now *one* of the end users is having problems. After copying the files to his hard drive and opening them with LT2000 *some* of the xrefs don't load. I tried having him "browse" the path in the xref dialogue box but still it didn't work.

I don't have LT2000 so I am really stumped.

Help!

John

Hate to break the news to you, John, but you cannot really mix
AutoCAD versions in an office and expect trouble free work.

In LT2000/2000i, all your files, including Xrefs, need to be
R2000/2000i format to work trouble free.

BTW, R14 becomes non-upgradeable this year, so hopefully your
office is on track to upgrading soon or you risk losing your entire investment
in AutoCAD.

Are you serious? AutoCAD 2000 can open R14 but 2000LT can't? I am not worried about the potential loss of our small AutoDesk investment (one R14, one Map 3, one S8, and about a dozen 98Lt's) because we are the owner of the facility and have standardized on R14 in order to support drawing exchange among dozens of engineering firms contracted to us. Thanks for the warning about the impending dead line though - I may buy the upgrade and "shelve it". John.

No, 2000/2000i versions of LT and AutoCAD can open R14: the
technology between the two formats is change enough you will find
both AutoCAD and LT 2000/2000i give you lots more problems when
nursing R14 files.

If you standardized on R14, shelf the 2000 stuff until you make
the switch. Otherwise, you will always have problems. You will
never get an Autodesk person to confess to it.

Here is a copy of an email I sent to a friend
earlier this year.  There is a VBA routine out there called BlankBlk
that renames the blank block.    This may help you.

unfortunately, i cannot send you the rountine we
have written.   it's not for dist.

here is some info. on the xrefs not loading.
I have not solved the problem completely, but here is what i have so
far........

I think you are getting this message when you try
to open a file:

Warning: Invalid block name "" found.
File
9958Ltbk.dwg needs recovery.
Error: Unable to load 9958Ltbk.dwg.
Drawing
may need recovery.
*Invalid*

This is called a "blank block" problem.
