LARGE file size

I am experiencing a problem with large file sizes after inserting templates from another file. The file I created, I would like to duplicate the tabs, viewports, title blocks, etc.... After inserting the tabs from that file (which is total of 5mb) I have now created a file that is 13mb's. Is there a reason for this? Is there a way around this? I am at a loss, and there is no way that I can even zip a file that is 14-15 mb to send to anyone......
any help would be greatly appreciated

Nate

Have you purged? Have you delete all (unused) layer filters?

I apologize, I should have put that up right away, Yes, I have purged, run an audit, and created a lsp file to delete all layer filters.

Then your file is as small as it is going to get: your
"tabs" seem to have content of their own.

well then the question remains, how come the parent file that I am taking the "tabs" from happens to be 5mb, and the resulting file that they are introduced to ends up being 13mb?? why the growth? In my opinion I am not adding information, simply copying it. am I missing something?

Nate,

Sounds strange to me. We clean up our customers files all the time
and this does not happen.

The most common cause is layer filters and you might not be cleaning
these up completely.

Can you post a sample drawing?

Regards Gary D'Arcy.

did you run PURGE completely, or just once?
You are copying layouts, so what's in them? Are you perhaps bringing
in a lot more than you think, several times?

Yes, I understand all that is said, and have done these things, again, I may be missing something, but I took it as far as turning on all the layers in model space, erasing everything, deleting all but 2 of my 17 sheet files, purging so that there were only like 12 layers left, and then saving just for giggles, and the file was reduced only 2 MB, resulting in a 12mb file........Highly unusual.....Im very knowledgeable in CAD and have never come across something like this before. although, I have never used the "Tab" method so much before either.....

Without access to your "huge" file I can't tell, but I
suspect Gary's got it nailed.

Gary, I appreciate the help, but thats just the problem, If I could send 12MB files around, I probably wouldn't be on this forum ; )
unless you have an FTP site I can upload it to....its kind of stuck on my server at that size......zipped I guess its 9 MB....Ill give it a try, but Im not so sure it will leave my outlook.

Hi. I have a problem with the size of the dwg. I have a file 2.2 Mb. Then I have to copy one drawing detail of that file that I paste it in a new dwg file and the size of that file is about 1.70 Mb. I purge it, convert it, delete all filters the isavepercent command is 0 and the size becomes to 1.68 Mb. If I draw that little detail in a new dwg the size of this is about 350 Kb. I do not understand what is going on. Would you please explain it?
Thanks

Have you deleted all of your groups?

I do not know. How can I delete the groups? In fact, I delete the detail drawing inside the dwg file and the file with no drawing has 1.68 Mb of nothing I can see.

that's exactly the same problem I am experiencing only on a much smaller scale. same concept though. Let me know if you find out any reason for this issue.

WBLOCK command is the only way to end up with the smallest
file possible: use that to select your model content to
create a new 'smaller' file.

Anything else you import from your problem file may bulk it
right back up.

To delete Layer Filters, start LAYER command and erase the
list that shows up on the left hand side (assuming you have
a version of LT that shows this, you ALL seem to keep such
important info a top secret).

I just have "0" and Defpoints layers. In fact, I used Wblock Command from the original dwg to extract the detail drawing but result the same problem. I do not know what else can I do to resolve this size file problem. Do you have other idea?

Lots of ideas, but you can't seem to share much information
I notice. Maybe posting the file would help, maybe your file
is as small as it will ever get, don't know, can't tell from
your posts alone.
