In your view (explore or through cad) do you see the file extension? If not
you need to show that - so you can change it. yourdrawing.sv$ to
yourdrawing.dwg - if you can't see the extension you are naming it
yourdrawing.dwg.sv$

Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View Tab, uncheck the box that hides
them.

in windows 7 professional, it lets me see all extensions except the ".sv$" extensions.  i accidentally X'd out the recovery manager when i first opened autocad after a fatal error yesterday.  and now i cant get my autosaved file back.  i can see it, but not the extension.

Extensions visibility is a Windows Explorer setting:

SV$ files are located in your Widnows log-in TEMP folder as well: they aren't located where your DWG/BAK files are at:

How do you show the file extension, if it is not there ?

You need to set your Windows Explorer to show file extensions first: you might need to restart AutoCAD afterwards.

To show file extensions in windows explorer click on "Organise" and select Folder and search options, goto the view tab and make sure that hide extensions is unchecked.

If you're using a Mac, right click the file and select "Rename" then change "sv$" to "dwg"
