Having problems with section cross box

While working on a file, an issue has started where if i try to select an object, or use a crossing box for selection, the program will pause, or almost stall and then continue. The stall occurs on first and second pick points of the crossing box, and any time i select in model space. The problem does not occur in papar space, but does occur if i work thru a viewport back to model space.
This is slowing my working process consdierably. The problem is something with the drawing, as other drawings will still work fine. Various other people in the company have had the same problem working on other drawings.

Is the problem file a DWG you got from an outside source not using LT,
perhaps a custom version of AutoCAD?
Did you try the usual PURGE and AUDIT of the file to make sure there are no
problems in it?

The drawing was started in scratch by myself in 2000 LT. I have tried auditing, purging, deleting anything in the file that was not necessary. I have tried going to a backup... and starting back one day... It begins the same problem after working a short time. I have tried Wblocking the whole drawing out to a new file... I have tried cutting and pasting all the important stuff to a new file... Still does it.

Zip the file up and post it to customer files so someone can take a look at
it.

If using a NNTP newsgroup reader, the CUSTOMER FILES newsgroup can be found

you are using TTF fonts perhaps, lots of it perhaps? Turn QTEXT on or turn
off those layers (or change to SHX fonts for a test), see if the problem
goes away.

Playing around with it a little more... and this is what i have found. Freezing the dim layer... makes everything good to go.
If I just delete everything on my dim layer. It speeds it up a lot... But, when i am zoomed out far.. it's works good. When i zoom in on an object. It still pauses on selection like it did before... even with all the dims/text deleted / purged.

Okay... i went thru and changed all the TT FOnts to SHX.. and yeah, that fixed it. So could someone explain why this is causing a problem. Because regardless, i still need to plot with those styles...

It's a known issue using ttf fonts in AutoCAD drawings. It takes alot of
resources to display them, which really bogs the computer down. Thats why
many folks (myself included) only use shx fonts. Work-arounds include: use a
shx font that resembles the ttf font (ie use Arial.shx instead of
Arial.ttf ); Use a shx font while working on the drawing and change to the
desired ttf to plot; freeze ttf font layers when working on the drawing; use
the qtext command when working in the drawing.
