Diesel get current view angle

When you enter the 'VPOINT' command and choose the 'Rotate' option autocad shows the current view angle as measured from the x axis on the xy plane (and no option to enter current angle + 5°). Does anybody know how I could get that number so that I can use it in a macro, the idea is to increase the view angle by a number of degrees each time. But there are no variables that store the number directly. The VPOINT command uses the VIEWDIR variable to work out the angles, but it's been a long time since I left school, and I didn't pay much attention when I was there :>). I can work it all out with trigonometry but Diesel isn't too hot with that. Any help or pointers would be very much appreciated.
