Can't insert block

I start all my jobs from a drawing standard layers template that I save as the new job.
Latter on, if for any reason I purge layers not used, and I find that I will need them back, I try to insert my layers template as a block, and receive a message of "block insertion failed. What should I do to insert the drawing layers in my drawing as a block?

I have the same issue. Except my situation calls for a macro that will remove the block right after you insert it so that you can do it again later.

I have dimension styles loaded in a blank .dwg and if I need to insert the dimstyles again it will not go.

any ideas on what to do?

I need to have a macro either explode or purge out the block.

this is on a custom toolbar button... when you hit the button you get all your dimstyles loaded and your ready to go.

ADCENTER
Open Drawings
Dimstyles
or
Layers
Drag and Drop what you need

Oh and... Stop! Purging so much

So easy.
(Your Open Drawing can be that block you need but can't
insert.)

Here's what I ended up doing.

^C^C-INSERT S:/Corporate/Toolbar/SEI-DIM-STYLES;0,0;1;1;0
all it does in insert a blank .dwg with loaded dimension styles.
I have also added the styles to the .dwt that we start with.

The ad center I strayed away from cause we centralized our blocks and yet people have used all different methods to link to them. i.e. symbol manager, tool palettes, design center... etc... etc...

So this instance was just for our tool bar that we pass around.

The macro will allow you in insert multiple times now...
no purging & no exploding.

If you put an asterisk in front of your block name, it'll come in
exploded -- that way the block definition doesn't come in. I prefer to do it
that way so that I don't have sixteen instances of the same empty block
floating around.

I like the sound of that.
