Adding attributes to old blocks

We have an architectural layout with lots of door label blocks. Now we want to add more properties to the doors by adding more attributes to the blocks.

When we try to redefine the blocks, all goes well until we open one of the old blocks. They still show only the old attributes.

According to the other discussion groups there is a command ATTREDEF in Big Autocad or in some new release. But is there a way of doing it in LT2002?

In LT, you will have to manually replace each occurrence of the old block
with the new block to replace or add attributes. ATTREDEF and BATTMAN are
not options found in LT.
