relative xrefs on a network drive

We have just started our own firm and we can't afford the full AUTOCAD 2004 licenses (we need at least 3, preferably 5). We are looking into AUTOCAD 2004 LT.

My problem is that I noticed that AUTOCAD 2004 LT can't do relative xrefs with a network drive, only with a local drive. Is there a way around this, maybe with a third party plugin.

We have a server which is going to handle all our file sharing and it would be very limiting for our workflow to not be able to use relative references with the network drives.

Thanks for your help

Be sure that all your CAD pc's have the same mapping:
X: drive is \\server\cadfiles on all machines. Should work without any problem.

We keep our xref's in the same folder as the
sheets, Acad will look in the same local folder (of the sheet file) if it can
not find it the the saved path.

BTW - this works well for us with 2 server machines
and 10+ seats.

I have or i belive that i have a very similar problem.
i have the 2004LT and i have these dwgs that have XREFS.
The thing is that i attach them in the way it should be, you save it and all. and if u open the file sometimes the refs get lost. and u have to xref again.
the path is on other computer but i can access to that computer no problem. and i can change anything i want. but i dont know if this a problem. sometimes u put the xrefs un save, u open and everything is fine, u close u open and everything is fine, u close u open and thats it, the refs are gone the thing that drives me crazy is that not all the refs get lost. just a few. i dont know what to do anymore. i just tried every things that my mind think of.
PLEASE HELP ME

If you have your xrefs on another machine, are all the other computers
looking at that machine in the same way, as in drive letters?

Here's a hint, don't know if it'll work with your office. We keep our xrefs
in the same folder as our drawing files (we do MEP work). We never, never,
never have any issues with a drawing finding the right file. This works for
us because our file structure is simplified, and has worked well for the
last 8-9 years.
