layer manager makes cycling through drawings very sluggish

on LT 2011, I always kept the layer manager pane open. I found that when I have several drawings open, and CTRL-TAB to cycle through them, the layer manager causes the cycling very sluggish. Sometimes I have to wait 2-3 seconds to be able to jump to the next opened drawing. The LM seems to refresh itself at a slow pace. The drawings I am using are not huge ones, all less than 1MB and I have at most 30 or so layers in each of them. I know it's the LM causing it because if I close LM altogether, cycling through the drawings becomes very fast again. I have an i7 machine with 9GB of RAM, there is no way that the drawings I have opened is putting a strain on the system. Does anyone have any insight on why the LM is dragging?

It's done that since AutoCAD 2009. Turn it off, or live with the slowness.
