Slow Drop Down Menus in Acad LT 2014?

My pull down menus (File, Edit, ets) are extremely slow to drop down in AutoCAD Lt 2014. Like more than a few seconds- very annoying.  I know this has been in an issue in previous versions of Autocad, and users have installed a blank acad.dll file in the root directory where acad.cui is found. But with autocad lt there aren't these files?

So, in a similar way,  I tried a blank acadlt.dll where the acadlt.cuix is located (two different locations, tried them both), and nothing worked. That was just a guess. Autocad is obviously looking for something when I click on menus, and it is fast (normal) the second time I click the menu, but reverts back after I work a little.

It makes the menus almost unuseable. I couldn't find any other posts for this exact issue, but it would be great if someone knew how to solve this! I am running a brand new computer with Win 8.1.

Thanks for any help!

There are current user issues with Win8.1. No fix yet.

Try some testing: unplug from your network (and/or internet) and see if things speed up.Also ensure you are logged out of Autodesk 360 and do not have sync on.

Your posted solution was quite old and most likely no longer relevant.

Any progress on thsi?  I just upgraded to Autocad 2014, and it takes forever to pull down a menu so I can open a file.  This is really awful.  I didn't have the problem with my previous version of Autocad.

Hi Kevin-

For me, no, I have not found a solution, and find it frustrating as heck
that I have to work around something that seems like it would be easy for
Autodesk to fix, and I would guess, that many other users like you and I
have to contend with. I have been informed that AutoCAD 14 isn't supposed
to work with Windows 8.1- its only ok for 8.0 (and I was supposed to know
that when I upgraded to 8.1?) which seems ridiculous to me- who is using
Windows 8 anyway? I called Autodesk, they said I could upgrade to 2015 for
$800, which is absurd, as I just purchased 2014 in December, for that
amount. The frustrating part is that I am trying to make a living here, and
this is taking enormous amounts of time to problem solve, for something
that really should not be a problem.

So- what I am planning on doing soon (this weekend if I can) is to
downgrade to windows 7, which means (for me) purchasing and installing a
new hard drive, and reloading everything I use, etc. etc. I'll keep my 8.1
drive just in case that makes it worse and I need to go back (the laptop I
am on does not have Win 7 drivers so its an extra pain). This hopefull
takes care of two problems- the lag in menus, and getting rid of Win 8.1,
which is unpredictable and awful (in my opinion).

I would hope that there is a solution out there- I was surprised to see
that there weren't more people having this problem, as I assume that there
are lots of 2014 users using Win 8.1, or at least, having a similar problem
(not sure if its a problem with other OS)

In the interim, I am really minimizing my menu use and just trying to
switch to typed commands and alias keys. I cant spend more hours trying to
find a solution, and tried all the ones I did find to no avail.

Good luck! Would love to hear if you find a way to solve it.

Do more that just stare at the screen: grab a freeware like PROCESSMONITOR start it just before you do as you noted and see what is going on being the screen on your system and network and see why it's taking 20-second to activate.

LT2014/Win7 64bit here, I just have that annoying 1-second delay 🙂
