How to upgrade from LT89 to LT 2002?

What do I need to do to transfer my LT98 customizations (button-bars, menus, etc.) from LT89 to LT2002, assuming I want to install 2002 >over< 98? The default installation doesn't seem to respect 98's customizations...

Thanks in advance...
David

You might not want to wholesale copy all your LT98 menus and stuff to
LT2002, as enough have changed and a lot was added to LT you would not have
a good time.

If they are not, you need to set up your LT98 menu as an add-on, then you
can use LT's MENULOAD command to load and add your menu to the existing
screen menu. Just make sure all the new toolbar button image files you might
have created also get moved. The Support folder in the LT2002 folder is a
good place to drop them (just do not overwrite anything already there).

If you have custom linetypes, and hatch pattern files, even more work is
involved: HELP can explain most of this, but you need to post more
information like are you just looking to move some custom toolbars, do you
have any custom macros, custom toolbar images, custom linetypes, custom
hatch patterns, special file search paths you need to maintain, did you edit
the main LT98 menu files, or did you create and add a custom made one etc.

David, the best procedure would be to install AutoCAD LT 2002 in it's
own folder because it will prefer to use the support files it installs
in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared. When you install it in
the previous version, it will find those support files before it's
preferred support files and that will probably cause problems with some
commands including plotting.

Because the new version adds features in the menu that LT 98 did not
have, you will have problems if you attempt to load the older menu files
entirely in LT 2002. You can, however, open the older aclt.mns in
WordPad and copy the custom sections into the equivalent locations in
the newer aclt.mns. Otherwise you can edit out all but the custom
sections and partially load it (with a different menugroup name at the
beginning of the .mns file) using the menuload command (do not check
"Replace All").

Thanks for the info...it looks like I'll have a bit of work to do...I'm the same guy complaining in another thread about the "Today" window showing up blank. I couldn't see any advantage to the separate-folder install - there's no insight provided in the manual - so I chose to overwrite for disk-space reasons. At least I've only done two of the ten updates so far...maybe I'll get it right by the end...Thanks again. DA
