Editing Xrefs

I have ACAD LT 2010 version drawings that contain Xrefs.
I now try to edit the Xref in place by double clicking on the Xref. However I get the message that "Selected Xref Block is not editable".
What could I be doing wrong?

You don't have XEDIT variable set to 1 in all of your files.

Also go into OPTIONS and set that "in-place reference editing" on for xrefs.

Thank You
There was a problem with Xedit.
How do I find the options that you refer to?
I now get the attached message. What does this mean?

That means the file is open by someone else, maybe even you.
You cannot change the status of a file already open.

In the same folder as the file you will see DWL files.

OPTIONS>Open/Save tab>Xrefs section>Demand Load>Enabled with Copy
