Distance Command

Dist command works o.k. in mspace but when I go to pspace it shows the object as 1/2 the mspace object. Dimensions work fine on both m/s. Help please.

By chance is your viewport set to 1/2 scale? It's a "feature", Help says:

"Note: When you work on a layout in paper space, distances are normally
reported in paper space units. However, if you use the DIST command with
object snaps on model space objects that are displayed within a single
viewport, distances are reported in 2D model space units. When using the
DIST command for 3D distances, it is recommended that you switch to model
space."

The viewport scale is set to 1:2 or 6"=1'-0"

Perfect. 1/2" = 1' would show 1/2 the length in Dynamic Entry but should show correctly Length X & Y after pushing enter.

Charley, I'll type 'dist' and pick the two points. upon picking the second point x,y,z dimensions show up ,but at 1/2 of what I know them to be and what actually shows correctly in mspace. in fact when i dimension something in either model space or paper space it comes out o.k.. it's just when i am using the 'dist' command and checking line lengths that i have this problem.... any thoughts?

It is working as it should.
After you hit enter what does the dialog say? Either at the cursor or the command line.
Attached is a 40' mspace line showing 10" at 1/4" = 1' in pspace. If I click enter it will show the 40' length as it should and 40'-Delta X, 0'-Delta Y

o.k., I'm in a drawing using inches right now but did the converstion as you suggested using 480" the equivalent to 40', put it in a viewport set at 1/4"=1'. when i measured it with the distance command i got 10". when i dimensioned it i got 480"........

40' in a 1/4" viewport is 10" on a printout: plot and measure for yourself.

1/4"=1'-0" scale broken down:
0.25" x 4 to get 1inch
12 inches in a foot
That's 0.24x4x12=48

So you drew 480", divide by 48, you get 10".

You are perhaps confusing 1/4"=1'-0" with 1=4, which is a quarter.

LOL, I wrote that wrong, I knew it as soon as I hit send

0.25 x 4 x12x 40 = 480, what you drew in the viewport.

So you drew 480", divide by 48, you get 10".

Thanks guys!

Maybe in the next release they will allow us to measure in pspace without actually dimensioning or converting. It would definately help when it comes to 'self-checking' the work.

Regards!
