Everything was fine, I went on holiday came back 2 weeks later(yesterday) and the crosshairs are gone, I can't type anything into he command line. It will not move between model and paper space
The mouse pointer works on the drop down menus.
We are using AutoCAD 2012 on a windows 7 professional machine.
I have been through the forums and have tried all the followings suggestions and nothing has worked
-turned off the Aero theme
-updated NVIDIA driver and then uninstalled and gone to the windows driver
-installed service pack 1 and 2
-removed user settings
Any other suggestions would be most welcomed

Hi Colin, have a look at this article:
http://knowledge.autodesk.com/article/Mouse-cursor-or-crosshair-disappears-in-AutoCAD-2012
You should be able to get the crosshairs working again, especially since they were doing fine at one point. However, we have seen cases where the problem persists and the only concrete fix is to upgrade to a newer version of AutoCAD or change graphics cards.
Hi Bryce,
I got it to work in the end, I was going to uninstall and then reinstall, I still had AutoCad 2011 on the hard drive, so removed this first, then I thought to myself, lets jut check and hey presto my cross haors have returned.
So luckily a relatively simple fix in the end
many thanks for your help
