Corel Draw

I am trying to take a drawing out of AutoCAD and put it into Corel Draw for
further modification, however it is important that the dimensions are kept as
the CorelDraw file is used to produce mock-ups/prototypes.
So far I have been unable to do this and I always seem to end up with an
image about half size - ( using copy/paste, import/export etc..)
NB our version of CorelDraw( 6 ) does not support .dwg or .dxf files -
perhaps this needs upgrading if later versions do?

Chris

Corel is "famous" for rescaling DXF/DWG imports. There is a method to
the madness. But I usually suggest using a "known box" where you can
determine a scale factor based on a object in the DWG.

Also, have you tried using PLOTTERMANAGER command to set up
Raster/HPGL/Postscript Plotters, that will generate Raster/HPGL/Postscript
format files at almost any resolution you need?

Thanks for input. However in my version of CorelDraw I do not seem to be
able to import any DXF/DWG files at all! perhaps my software is too old?
I had tried the plotter method but resolution and file sizes seemed to make
this method a bit unsatisfactory - perhaps it is worth pursuing?

What version of AutoCAD are you using.

You may want to upgrade your version. At the moment Corel is at version
10 - just released (but may be full of bugs). I have heard that it imports
Autocad drawings very well.

Corel 9 is the version that I have and it will allow you to draw a rectangle
at correct units. 1"x1" rectangle. In your autocad drawing you can do the
same and when you import them you just scale down/up the drawing that you
imported into Corel.

I have found that with Version 9 I have to print to eps out of Autocad and
then import into Corel using the eps interperated filter.

This gives me line weights ect.

- Overall, I would say that you need to upgrade to Corel 8, 9 or 10.

Jeff,
our version of AutoCAD is LT 2000i but CorelDraw is version 6. If there is a
time/cost benefit to upgrading this then our company will do it but I have
to be sure before I make any recommendations to them! - please advise...

What I was ideally after was a direct way of taking any AutoCAD dxf drawing
into Corel with a minimum of rescaling and be able to apply fills etc
easily. I have had limited success exporting with WMF's but I cannot work
out why AutoCAD saves these files at the size they were last viewed at!

In the mean time I will look again at EPS plotting...

Regards
Chris

Chris, I have CorelDraw 6 installed with a DXF import filter available, but I
noticed that it likes R12 DXFs better than A2000 DXFs.

Try running setup again for CorelDraw to see if you missed some filters the
first time around.

By the way, because I had to DXFOUT as R12 to get Corel to read it, I lost
lineweights. It ignored the A2000 DXF.

Chris

If you have CorelDraw version 6 and have NO ability to import dxf files,
then there are 2 posibilities:

You have not installed the dxf import filter
OR
You have a "Special Edition" of CorelDraw that does not included the dxf
filter.

Possible Solutions:
Run the Corel setup program to add the dxf import filter
OR
Upgrade to a version of Corel that includes the filter
