AutoCadLT Registry Bug

AutoCadLT 2000 (not "i" version) has a bug on installation that a bunch of
the registry keys don't get written correctly. This manifests itelf if you
run a registry cleaner, they get deleted and then the "Properties" window
won't display properly. The only way to correct this is to reinstall the
program.

I find that I need to reinstall AutoCadLT. Has anyone found a correction to
this problem or do I need to live with it?

The bug was noted before in the newsgroup however Autodesk never came up
with a patch, that I am aware of.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

This is curious. I have LT2000 loaded. I run both Regclean and SystemSuite
2000 regularly. The latter takes out many LT related keys, but LT seems to put
them back in the next time I run it. No long term problems with the registry
as far as LT is concerned. Running NT4 SP6a. Maybe it's a Win98 problem?

Martin,
I am running it under Windows2000. When RegClean cleans, it doesn't get
everything. If you use a more aggressive registry cleaner (Norton's or
Fix-It Utilities), it really finds a bunch of bad links. When you delete
them, you lose the properties tool.

Further investigation shows that a number of the tools and dll's that
AutoCad loads to the Registry are done without a path to where they exist.
That's OK when you have them installed and AutoCad open but a registry
cleaner sees them as a bad link.

Paul

I'm new to LT 2000i and running Win98 2nd edition. Unfortunately I agree w/
you concerning System Suite Registry Cleaner and LT. I just ran System Suite
3 Registry Cleaner. Although I previously had no prblems w/ LTI now have the
following error message upon opening LT when it tries to initially bring up
AutoCAD LT Today:

Startup Of AutoCAD Today: Internet Explorer Script Error
-an error has occurred in the script of this page:
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0
URL: file://C:\Program\AutoCADLT2000i\AcToday.htm

Being new I have the following questions:
1. Is there anything I can add/adjust to easily" solve this problem?
2. If not, where would I go to find out how to reinstall LT w/out
loosing my LT preferences, files, etc.?

Sorry for the length of this message, thanks in advance for any advice.

Richard,

I'm using AutoCadLT 2000, not 2000i. It distresses me that you have had the
problem, that tells me that AutoDesk hasn't fixed the problem with 2000i
either.

I hope that someone from AutoDesk will see this message. I don't know how we
can get through to them.

As far as reinstall, if you have made any new menus and saved them under a
distinctive name, you will be ok there.
As far as remembering any tweaks you may have performed or preferences, Bad
News: it is not easily recoverable. You will have to do a reinstall and
start over. Sorry.
