Packngo across network problems

Packngo fails to pick up all .dwg files xref'd into the open drawing, when
the drawing is located on a remote computer. But, this only seems to happen
occasionally.
I can go across the room to the other computer, open the drawing, and
packngo works great. Why is this?
Any help appreciated.
(using W98, A2K, and Packngo v. 2.04)
