Count objects in a specific area of the drawing

I have a very large site with every existing shrub mapped out. How can I quickly count the amount of shrubs in a given area (i.e., a shrub bed)?

Thanks.

If each shrub or plant is a block, then you can use the command BCOUNT.  It will give you the option to select objects by picking, selection window, crossing window, or Ctrl-A for all.
