    Parent/Child Relationships

Is it possible to establish a parent child relationship automatically without using the Insert/Edit Child Components dialog box?
What i'm trying to do is create an entire drawing with parent components and then from this drawing create an other drawing containing only child components. I would like to have this child only drawing created from a parent list.
    Is this possible?

A parent/child relation is established by simply having the TAG2 attribute
value on a child schematic symbol have the same value as what is present on
a TAG1 attribute value on a parent schematic symbol. You don't have to use
AcadE to do this. You can use any AutoCAD attribute editor cmd to set this
    relationship.

If you are running in the "IEC tagging mode", then you may need to have the
symbol's INST and LOC attribute values match as well.

    Nate.

Is it possible to insert child components from a list of parent components, similar to inserting panel components from a schematic list?

    Hi

If u have parent symbol existing in the drawing then automatically u can choose the child symbol and u can get the list of parent symbols used and that how u can relate child component to parent..

Yeah It is possible to insert child component similar to inserting panel components from a schematic list.....

So when I have inserted various Parent components how do I insert their Child component from a List?

You don't actually insert the child symbols from a list. These symbols may be inserted from the Icon Menu, then the dialog box provides a choice of how you can match that with the parent from a list.

What is the purpose of having one drawing all parents and the other all children?

The application we are using ACADE is very different than what the program is designed for, we are using the parent child relationship differently.

Did you ever get this to work. Two years later, I have a very similar situation. Thanks.
