Is there a reason the location box defaults
to the current layer?
I have reset it in the config to a LOCBOX
layer, but it keeps defaulting to CURRENT and then
changing the line type/color of that layer.

In some other case I have seen
similar to this, the drawings have ended up with multiple wd_m blocks on
them. Also, make sure that the layer you are typing in actually
exists.
