AutoCAD Electrical

I use Mech Desktop and Inventor..... and have little
experience or understanding of electrical schematics.

However..... my boss is trying to create electrical
"loop" sheets for PLC automation using plain jane
Autocad.

It seems very cumbersome doing this. Basically like
using Autocad as an Etch a Sketch.

Would "electrical" be a much better "tool" for what we
are trying to do?

And..... some general questions Id like advice on. If
doing electrical schematics in plain Autocad... should
one NOT use paper space for the text and border.... and
instead keep everything in model space?

I f you plan on doing electrical schematics on a regular basis, then run, do
not walk, to your reseller and get ACADE. You will be glad you did. If you
are not, then it is up to you to decide if the extra expense is worth it. I
have been using this addon for over 5 years now and would not be able to
produce at the level I am without it.

You are right about using ACAD as an Etch-a-Scetch. That is exactly how it
would be. That is how I did all my diagrams before AE.

I would recommend you still draw the diagram in model space and plot in
paper space. This will allow you to scale the diagram within a window to the
size you want it to be.

OK.... so until we get AE..... are you saying to just
put the border and title block in pspace? Or would you
put ALL text in pspace such as the component text
labels and such?

I always leave my border and title block in Pspace and do all drawing in
Mspace. It is simpler for me this way. The only text I have in Pspace is the
text that goes into the Titleblock.

As far as it being an addon, it used to be an addon to Acad but now that it
is integrated with ACAD, I don't know if it can be purchased as an addon. I
do know that if I want to upgrade I am going to have to buy ACAD 2004. I am
presently using ACAD 2002 with Via WD V16.1b.

I do not think it's an addon any longer. I have been a subscriber back
through the Cimlogic/Via days. A couple weeks back, I recieved AcadE as
an entirely new seat.

Did that just double my subscription costs? ;-)
