    ACE2012 Crash problems.

I hope I may be able to get some insight to my system problems.

I have expressed some agravation with ACE 2012 from time to time but the last three days has been difficult.

    Symptons;

unable to change drawing file names from say A to B in a project.   I have done this on many  occasions.

    no pin list editor.

    Various fatal errors.

    Fatal errors closing drawings.

All these glitches are corrected by shutting my PC and power off and restart.

I experienced this on a PC with WIN XP pro and ACE 2010.

I have memory shots of memory use.   IE, outlook 2010  WIn Explorer  are the only programs I have open.  8GB memory. DELL win7 M7 series  I7  intel processor.

Has any one had these type of glitches.

Comments!  Thanks in advance   Cheers  jq

Are the crashes only occuring in ACADE or are other programs also crashing?

If it's only ACADE that is crashing, try upgrading all your drivers to the latest version. A common problem is having calls to old drivers that don't work properly with ACAD.

The first to try would be your video drivers followed by any motherboard drivers.

Old drivers are one of the major causes of unexplained crashes in ACAD.

If however, you multiple programs crashing, try checking for a faulty memory module, hard drive or PSU.

    Thanks for your comments Brad.

It is only ACE that is mucking up.

The video card  is not a supported video card.

I have not requested that service pack 1 for Autocad to be installed, the reason as I understand it is that the registery file needs some editing to install. I read this somewhere on this forum.    I would not touch the Registery file due to the company computer policy.

I did instal the "snap" fix last year and that wa successful.

IT  dept for this office is some 3500miles away.

My computer was a new DELl July 2011 and ACE 2012 was installed at the same time.

I reinstalled ACE2012 as it had been installed  with an unusual configuration.  My installation did correct a few idiosyncrancies.

    Cheers  jq

It definately sounds like your video card is the problem then.

You have a couple of options.

    1. Try different drivers to find one that has less compatability issues.

    2. Get permission to have the video card changed to one that is supported.

You may have a problem with this if your IT department was penny pinching and got a motherboard with a built in video chip. In this case some motherboards allow another video card to be installed as long as the one on the motherboard is disabled in the BIOS

It all depends on what brand of chipset and the model of the chipset that are on your video card.

The Nvidia and ATI (now AMD) chipsets coupled with the latest drivers may solve a lot of your problems. With these two chipset brands, they may only be unsupported due to them being near the top of the tech tree at the time.

There are other chipsets out there, but they are not as well known and may not be supported.

It may pay to try the latest drivers and if they don't work, try the ACAD recommended drivers for the chipset.
