din rail

I would like to know if there is a way to add a user 1 and a user 2 field to
the din rail command. I use the user 1 and user 2 field for company use on
the other symbols, and would like to see these fields for din rail on the
BOM.

Thanks

Hi Joseph,

You can try this.... open this drawing:

C:\program files\autodesk\acade 2007\Libs\panel\wd_ptag_addattr_comp.dwg

Add your extra attribute definitions to this drawing and then save it back
out, overwrite old version.

Now, when you insert DINRAIL on a new drawing, you should see this on the
command line:

Merged attribute template: C:\program files\autodesk\acade
2007\Libs\panel\wd_ptag_addattr_comp.dwg

This means that any attribute definitions you define in this drawing should
get merged into the DINRAIL block as it is created.

Let me know if this doesn't give you the results you're looking for.

thanks,
Nate.

Nate,
I tried what you have suggested. I was able to put the fields on the drawing doing this, but it still does not give the information to me on the panel BOM. I was kind of thinking that it may be something in the wddinrl.xls spreadsheet, that is I can add components to this spreadsheet and modify the blocks, but I need to add user1 and user 2 fields for the BOM to pull the information. Just like when I add my companies part numbers to the user1 and user 2 fields for schematic and panel components. I what to preload the information and then ACE will pull the information from a catalog or the spreadsheet.

Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe,

Okay, I didn't realize what you were trying to do with these two new
attributes. It's not going to work. The BOM report is only going to
reference a small amount of info carried on the panel footprint
representation in order to then do a query on the catalog lookup database
file and pull in the bulk of the data (including the USER1-USER3 fields
defined in there). So, putting attributes named USER1 and USER2 on the
footprint is not going to link in any way to what is getting formatted into
the BOM report for "USER1" and "USER2". Sorry I misunderstood.

Why won't this work? It's because of the way that AcadE constructs a BOM
report. It groups common components together, gets a count, outputs the
count and part number and vendor name and a query of the catalog lookup for
a common description for the group. If each component potentially carries a
unique set of attribute values that are supposed to end up in the BOM, then
the idea of a single entry in the BOM for the "group" of like components
just doesn't work.

You could look at using the Panel Component report. It gives a line item for
each footprint instance (no grouping). You could assign your unique
attribute values to footprint attributes like RATING11 and RATING12. These
attributes are pulled into this type of report. In ACE2007 you also have the
ability to include user-defined attributes into various reports.

Sorry I am not of more help with this issue.

Nate.

Joe, what version of AcadE are you using? AcadE 2007 provides a way to get
these user-defined attributes into a report. You create a list of the
attributes you want AcadE to add to reports using a tool provided under the
Projects->Reports menu. Then when you run your report these should show up
in the list of Available fields in the Change Report Format dialog. You can
find out more about this in the AcadE help by looking under user-defined
attributes.

Joe, after reading again what you wrote I think I misunderstood what you
wanted to do. I think you would need to create a catalog table for Dinrail
in your catalog lookup. The table should be called DIN. Basically, once you
insert a piece of dinrail, edit it and select catalog lookup. Then make
sure to create the table DIN. From this point, you can add the part
information, making sure the MFG, PART NUMBER, and ASSYCODE exactly match
what will come from the spreadsheet. The BOM will then pair it up when run
and extract any of the data you may have entered for descriptions and the
USER1 and USER2 fields.

Hope this helps,

Pat,
Worked great, making a new catalog for the din rail. Everything works exactly how I want, thanks.

OK. Sorry I got off the track with the user-defined attributes. Glad it is
working now.
