creating attribute for a block

i am attempting to create a block and that has to have a visible tag (text) next to it. i have made the block but whenever i try to define an attribute the attribute is only visible from the block editor, once i get out of the block editor the text disappears in paper space and model space, i go back into the block editor, and the text reappears.

I have also tried to just added text to the block . this will not work because the text has to be changeable. (because the motor, or conduit number changes)

Make sure you set the attribute to Invisible=No using the Properties
command.

Just open the block with AutoCAD. Don't worry about the block editor.
Click the Properties icon on the top toolbar of AutoCAD. Click on the
attribute you want to be visible. Down near the bottom of the Properties
dialog is the option Invisible. You have a choice of Yes or No. If you
want the attribute value to be visible by default, click No for
Invisible=No.

Note: You can always toggle attribute visibility by clicking the AcadE
Move/Show attribute icon and clicking on the graphic portion of a symbol,
rather than the attribute text. This brings up a dialog that allows you to
toggle attributes to visible or not. But if you want an attribute to
default to visible always, you should set it to be visible from the ATTDEF
dialog when you create it, or you go back and edit it like I explained in
paragraph one.

Use the BATTMAN command to synchronize the block. This will synchronize all
the inserted blocks with the correct amount of attributes. An inserted block
(a block reference) won't automatically get attributes that are added to the
block definition after it was inserted.

Are you sure there is data in the Attrubute to display?
When you exit the block editor type ATTEDIT press enter and then click on your block. Now fill in the new attrubute with text.

Is it still invisable after you add text?

I'm sorry for some reason the website didn't like my user name i tried changing my password but nothing worked ... so i created a new account (this is jddraa).

I did get the text to appear when i was looking at what Doug told me to do i noticed that there was a place that you could type in what the Att. was going to equal (it was blank) so once i did this it worked ... my problem now is now that i have the dynamic block working like i want it to I'm wanting to drop it into a project. now i'm having scaling problems

here is what i did i took a motor (the dynamic block that i'm trying to make) from a project that was scaled @ 1/8" = 1' changed it to paper space and then created the block. I then put the block in a tool palette so that i can drag and drop it into any project. this worked perfectly when i dropped it back into a file that has the same scaling but when i dropped it into a file with 3-16" = 1' the item is too big by a factor of 12. i don't understand. if i create something in paper space it should appear to be the same size no mater what the scale is. or is that assumtion wrong?

That assumption is wrong. Sorry.

Paper Space is always 1=1. Your thinking of when you use View Ports between Model Space and Paper Space.
AutoCAD Electrical is all in Model Space.

Look into Annotation Scale. I think you can make a block annotative and it will scale to match what ever the active annotative scale is when you insert it. If you did this you would create the block at 1=1 scale.

Hope this helps.

i know that paper space is always 1=1 ... let me try to re-explain ... I'm trying to create a dynamic block so that no mater what view port is on the specific page, i want it to be the same size motor to be dropped on any project in paper space. is that possible? or did i just misunderstand your suggestion?

If you have release 2008 or greater check the annotative box in the MBlock dialog box. I'm sure you can do it through the block editor as well.

The block must be drawn 1=1 when created, then it will look at the annotative scale of the viewport and scale it as needed.

Can someone else explain this better for me? You may want to try the AutoCAD Group. They may be better at explaining this type of thing. This isn't the normal for Electrical.
