auto wire numbering

I'm looking to get something to add to my wire numbering maddness... i want to get it to search an existing to-from report (this plane and that plane are fairly close, or this plane yesterday and this plane today are alot closer)

if it finds something based on the whole to/from thing it pops up a dialog box of "hey i've found these... do they look right?" giving the user the option to use an exsisting name or entering their own...

has anyone else done this? what hurdles do you see in this, and any ideas on getting past them?

I might have some ideas but am a bit in the fog on the details of what
you're wanting to do. How close is this?... you accumulate a number of AcadE
project designs, each with its own drawing set and long list of wire from/to
connection data (output from AcadE in ascii report, or XLS, or sitting in
the WFRM2ALL table of the project's scratch database). For a new aircraft
design, you want to save time and suck in wire assignment / from-to info
from other designs that closely match what you're doing on the current
design. So you want to be able to query the existing projects and find
from/to combinations that match up with what you're currently working on
and, if found, somehow pull this in to the current design. Is this what
you're thinking about doing?

Nate.

yeah it was something along those lines... just without the preexsisting database being acade already got it working though, got it to work with the awesomely insane way aircraft wires are numbered, and a few other things. it was easier than i figured it would be.... just really ugly code that could be trimed to atleast 1/4 i'm sure, still learning though.

the three entries to choose from for wire number are (from top to bottom) a queried number from a past project, the last wire bundle entered (it's helpful for a huge string of wires in the same bundle) and a new entry that just blanks stuff out... of course clicking something just throws it in the edit box so it can be played with there..and on occasion of a preexsisting number on that wire it adds that to the list..

I'm kinda warming up to this electrical package, after i figured a way to put two wire numbers (one with and one without the bundle info, and keeping them updated together) and such...oooo what fun (although not nearly as pretty as ?your? wirenumber dialog)

Looks good. Can you email me at nate.holt@autodesk.com when you have time? I
have a question.
