all toolbars...

One of our Electrical people just brought me his laptop with AE open and no and I mean no toolbars open. I only have a few windows pull downs as well. File, View, Window, and Help. That's all nodda, zilch, not one ioda of a toolbar. How to I get these things back for him? He did say he might have done something wrong while trying to customize a toolbar. We have tried reloading AE2006 and AE2007 to no avail. Please help.

Thank you

John

You may have to reload the menus. To do this, type menulaod at the AutoCAD command line. In the dialog box that comes up, you should see ACAD and ELECTRICAL in te box for Loaded Customization Groups. If they are not there, then you will have to browse to locate and load them, whch has to be done one at at time. The files you will be looking for are ACAD.CUI and ACADE.CUI which are in the folder path

C:\Documents and Settings\[user name, owner, etc.]\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical 2007\R17.0\enu\Support

Been there done that. We have went so far as to reload the software but to no avail. I am really at a loss here. It has stumped me to say the least. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Since you have reload (reinstalled) the software I am not sure if this will
help, but you might try setting the current workspace to AutoCAD Default and
then back to AutoCAD Electrical Default

You can do this from the CUI editor since your toolbars are missing. Run
the command CUI and in the upper left section you should see a Workspaces
option. Just expand this option and under it you should have AutoCAD
Default and AutoCAD Electrical Default options. right-click on the AutoCAD
Default and select Set Current. Then hit the Apply button and then
right-click on the AutoCAD Electrical Default option and select Set Current
and select the OK button.

See attached CUI editor dialog.

That didn't work either Steve. Any other suggestions will be appreciated. I truly think this guy hosed up the main .cui and now I can't repair it.

Thank you for your help

Not sure if this is what is happening, but go to 'tools', 'palettes', and select 'tool pallettes'. I have had a user do something similar to his machine, and when I went to fix it It was as if he had closed every drawing and turned off the tool pallette, nothing was visible other than the tabs you mentioned.

Ok try this:
Delete all MNR files, this will force the next time you startup Autocad to rebuild the menu.

Hope this helps.

Try to delete the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.0\ACAD-5007:409 from the registry. Then start Electrical.

John,

Ok, let try this. When Acade installs it places original copies of certain
files in a location that will not get modified. we can grab these files and
copy them over to your working folders so that you will have the original
CUI files again. I will give steps for doing this with Acade 2007, but
Acade 2006 will be similar, just different folder names.

1) Exit Acade

2) Backup all the .CUI file in the folder: C:\Documents and
Settings\{username}\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical
2007\R17.0\enu\Support

3) Go to the folder 'C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acade
2007\UserDataCache\Electrical\UserSupport' and copy all the .CUI file from
this location to 'C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application
Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical 2007\R17.0\enu\Support' location (should be
only 1 CUI, ACADE.CUI).

4) Go to the folder 'C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Acade
2007\UserDataCache\Support' and copy all the .CUI file from this location to
'C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD
Electrical 2007\R17.0\enu\Support' location (The number of CUI files in this
location might change depending on what options you installed, but the main
CUI ACAD.CUI should be here, but you can copy them all over).

5) As mentioned by someone else here, delete all the .MNR files in the
folder 'C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application
Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD Electrical 2007\R17.0\enu\Support'. These will get
recreated when you run Acade.

I hope this works,

Steve

Sorry Steve, no go. I did notice one thing when I did a menuload, the .jpg is attached. After loading the acad.cui and acade.cui, shouldn't these files be listed in the upper left hand corner area and show as 'loaded'? I have tried to do this after going through your instructions and nadda, nothing at all.

Thanks

Steve, I just confirmed with one of our hardware guys that he did in fact completely unload and reload AcadE2006. I am beginning to think it's in the registry somehow. The only other last ditch effort to resolve this problem would be to reload the laptop from ground up. Unless...uh...you know how to unload AcadE and then clean out all the registry. I know this can be done but I don't know all the keys to erase.

Thanks

John,

I don't know all the register keys but I do know the main ones. They are:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R16.2\ACAD-4007:409

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R16.2\ACAD-4007:409

I think most of the icon and menu layout info is saved in the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

Another thing you might try and creating a new user on the machine, log on
as that user and run Acade. This might not really solve the issue with the
first user not having the menus, but as a new user the registry entry for
this user will have to be created. Just something to try and see if with a
new user the menus appear.

Sorry Steve, I've tried both of them. I will just have IT reinstall the laptop from the ground up. I know this should work without fail. I thank all of you guys for your suggestions. It's not really a bad thing just more of a hassle than anything.

Thanks to all

I had the same problem with Autocad electrical 2007. No toolbars, no menus and no workspaces are available in the startup screen where u r supposed to choose a workspace and make it current. besides when i try to change the current workspace with "Workspace" command, i don't find any workspaces listed in "My workspace" drop down eventhough there are two workspaces listed in the customisation window. i tried all the mentioned suggestions but none worked. So John if u have any news i would appreciate your help.

Happy2969 and John0070,

Before deciding to re-image the computer, there is one other step you could
take. Doing this however, will cause you to lose most of your
customizations that you have made to the environment since you installed.
Before trying this, make sure AutoCAD Electrical is not running. Another
user, Josdc suggested that you delete the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.0\ACAD-5007:409

I would suggest that you rename this key. I would then suggest that you
rename the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\[USER NAME]\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD
Electrical 2007

Where [USER NAME] is replaced with your user name. Once you have done that,
just restart AutoCAD Electrical. It will copy over the default set of
settings, as if you were a new user. Please note, only follow this
suggestion if you fully understand how to make changes to the registry and
are comfortable doing so.

Regards,
Mike
