Wire splice - New wire number?

Hi,

I am using ACE 2006. I have an AC brake that has two wires coming out of it. These wires are labeled B1 and B2. I am going to splice my #6 wire with wire B1 on the motor. I want to show this in my AutoCad drawing. My boss told me to just insert a 'DOT' on the wire to indicate the splice. My problem is that this 'DOT' component does not seem to split the wire in two. In other words, I can't seem to assign different wire numbers before and after the 'DOT'. I was wondering if there is a way I can manually split the wire at the 'DOT' so that I can enter different wire numbers before it and after it.

I suppose that I can just label B1 and B2 with plain text rather than real wire numbers, but if someone knows a better way, please let me know.

Thanks,
Paul

One possible solution is to insert (or create) a blanked terminal, one that
breaks the wire number through it. You can find this on the Insert Component
icon menu > Terminals and then pick from the right-most column.

Hi Nate,

Thanks for your response. The blanked terminal does what I want as far as splitting the wire, but I don't like that all the choices look like the real terminal blocks that I already have in my drawing.

I want this to look different - just two wires spliced together. A simple DOT would work perfect. Can I modify one of the blanked terminals symbols so that it looks like a DOT but still splits a wire? Do you happen to know which attributes are used for the wire splitting functionality? I'm sure I will have to move those a bit.

Thanks again,
Paul

Paul,

I think you can just copy one of the existing terminal dwg files to a new
name and then modify the graphics to suit your needs. Make sure that your
new symbol's name keeps the "HT1..." or "VT1...." prefix.

You might take existing symbol HT1001.dwg and copy it to a new name like
HT1_SPLICE.dwg. I think you can keep the existing attributes in place.

See it this works for you.

Nate.
