If the WDP file inadvertantly gets deleted from the project folder, is it possible to regenerate a new one?

Sorry, Rick.
AFAIK, unless you have a backup, you will have to create it over again from scratch.
Hopefully this will not be too painful for you.
Yikes! That's a backup more valuable than a .BAK file.
You're not kidding since there is no simple way of extracting the drawing descriptions to repopulate the drawing properties part of the WDP.
Depending on how the file got deleted, you MAY be able to recover it easily.
Check the recylce bin if it is a local file, and you may be able to recover it from there if just the delete key was pressed.
If it was deleted using SHIFT-DEL, you will need to look for and find a recovery program to recover it.
http://www.softperfect.com/products/filerecovery/ seems to a decent recovery program.
It the file was on a network drive, you will have to use the recovery program to try and restore it.
The quicker you do this the better the chances of recovering the file.
As the space is marked available in the drive management table, it will eventually be overwritten.
