Using misc_cat instead of component specific tables

Currently I have all my catalog items listed in the misc_cat table of the default catalog.  I did this because we have our own company catalog numbers that we need to use and go by and it was just easier for me to dump them in this one table.  My company does not use a whole lot of different parts.  We have our core parts which we tend to use over and over again.  I find that sorting though the catalog lookup file doesn't take too much time at all.  If I decide to just stick with using the misc_cat and I missing out on something that could really benefit me?
