Schematic Icon Menu Path changing?

HI,

We have a networked installation of AutoCADE 2008, and recently I have been looking into making a custom Icon Menu File and placing it on the network for everyone to use (right now everyone is using the file located on their C:\ drives).

Yesterday, I put up a custom file on the network and changed my AutoCADE installation to point to that custom file. It worked fine, but that was were I ran into some problems.

Everyone elses Icon Menu Paths automatically moved from their local C:\ drives to a random spot on the network where no Icon File existed. If they change theirs back to their C:\ drives, my File Path will then change (not all of the time though).

Does anyone know why this is happening?
We are sharing an env.wd file, would this be the cause?

Thanks alot,
Paul

Paul,

can you post your wd.env file that everyone is sharing? If it isn't
specified in the wd.env then I believe each project file, .wdp, has the
paths defined.

Pat,

I have attached my wd.env file as a text file. I don't believe we have ever changed anything regarding the icon file path, so I assumed that each person was just using their project specific icon file. That is why I was so confused when peoples paths started changing.

Thanks a lot,
Paul

Paul,

you are right, there is not a menu path specified in the wd.env. Can you
verify the path it is finding the menu in? When you first start AcadE and
select Insert Component, it should show the path in the command line. AcadE
can look in a series of paths for the icon menu and whichever one it finds
first is the one it will use. Can you check in your project's .wdp file if
the full path is listed or if just the menu name is listed.

Also, when you say that you change yours to point to a certain path, how are
you changing it? In the Project Properties? Are the project's shared so that
the others are using this same project?

I am still trying to understand exactly what you are describing so the more
detail the better.

Right now my AutoCAD installation is set to look at the networked icon file, and everyone else is set to look at their local harddrive.

When I first click insert component, it reads the networked icon file path. I am changing it by right-clicking on the project and selecting properites.

After looking through some older projects, the project .wdp file only contained ACE_JIC_MENU.DAT, not a file path. Since I have been playing around with the menu, my newer projects list the path as well.

I do rememeber whenever we have problems, when I go to fix the icon menu I right-click on the project and select properites. Under 'Schematic Icon Menu File', no path is listed; just ACE_JIC_MENU.DAT. Correctly pointing AutoCAD to the right location will change it so that the full path is listed.

The project is not shared. We do have one main project, and when starting a new project we goto Projects->Copy Project and copy all of the settings.

I am trying to be as thorough as possible, hope i am not confusing you. Message was edited by: pgstein

I don't really see anything that would cause the path to change but, if as
you say the project file might not list the full path, then AcadE uses a
search sequence. So depending on if it finds a file or the search paths in
each project or AutoCAD itself are different, the path may seem to change.

Here is the search sequence:
1) Full file name if supplied
2) path given in wd.env if defined
3) if WD_ACADPATHFIRST defined in wd.env then searches AutoCAD defined
support paths
4) user folder
5) project's path, i.e. path the active .wdp file is in
6) if WD_SUP_ALT defined in wd.env then searches it
7) support folder, default is \Program Files\Autodesk\AcadE 200#\Support
8) program folder, default is \Program Files\Autodesk\AcadE 200#
9) AutoCAD defined support paths if not already searched in #3 above.

So, you might try when someone is finding the wrong one, or not finding any,
to add the full path in the .wdp file. You can run this at the command line
to see what file it will find at any time.

(c:ace_find_file "ACE_JIC_MENU.DAT" nil) substituting the actual menu name
if different.

Hope this helps,
