Project file (WDP) in Acade 2005 vs 2006

Acade 2006 removes the drawing directory prefixes from the wdp file, while Acade 2005 requires the prefixes else it does not recognize the files as being part of the project.

This happens every time I use Acade 2006 to open a project wdp file. It would remove all directory prefixes from the drawing list. Then when someone uses Acade 2005, none of the drawings are recognized. They would then have to remove all drawings from the list and then add them back in order to get the prefixes (loosing all desc/sub/sect/ref info).

Hyun

Do those people still using 2005 have all of the available service packs
installed? If not, please have them do so.

?does the service pack allow AE2005 to use relative paths?

Comment: the README for the service pack doesn't seem to mention this ...

SP1 for ACE 2005 enabled that release to be able to recognize the 2006
wdp file and allow the users to locate the drawings so that the paths would
be added. As mentioned earlier in this post, 2005 projects had the entire
path entered into the wdp file, this proved to be a problem moving forward
for other features and integrations so the move was made to not have the
entire path listed in the wdp file any longer in the 2006 release.

I have passed on the information about seeing a loss of data when moving
back to an older release.

that's good to know... one reason I was reluctant to go to 2006 was the backwards compatibility to 2005 ... but if the SP fixes it, great, thanks

SP1 does NOT fix the problem. When I add a drawing to a project in Acade 2006, it will remove all directory prefixes. Then when I go back to Acade 2005, the program cannot locate any of the drawings.

AcadE 2006 introduced the concept of relative paths to the drawings, that
is, relative to the location of the project wdp file itself. AcadE 2005 has
no knowledge of this ability and the SP1 for AcadE 2005 only kept 2005 from
totally choking on a project file that contained the relative paths.

I believe that the only solution for customers who routinely flip back and
forth between AcadE 2005 and AcadE 2006 is to maintain separate sets of
project ".wdp" files, one set for pre-2006 AcadE and the other AcadE 2006
and beyond (maybe prefix the 2005 version of the ".wdp" filenames with
"2005_"). Both sets of files reference the exact same drawing sets... it's
just that the 2005 version of each .wdp file maintains the full path to the
drawings.
