There are multiple ways. You can use the method of main and secondary, like the previous post suggested. You can set the _LISTBOX_DEF table of the catalg database to cause Lookup to jump straight to a favorite manufacturer, favorite style, series, voltage, etc.
You can also load the MISC_CAT table with your absolute favorites and set your project to display only parts from this table.
You can use the WDBLKNAM field method to return only certain part numbers, based upon the block name of the symbol you are editing. Autodesk has already used this method to narrow down the list for pilot lights, so you only see red pilot lights if you are editing a red pilot light symbol. You can look at the pilot lights in the catalog database for an example.
You can create a project-specific list and get part numbers only from there.
The Catalog Browser in version 2015 allows you to select the part number first and map a symbol that automatically pops up when you select that part number.
