Moving ACADE folder location

Is it possible to share the ACADE sub-folder for ACADE2007 to a network location (as opposed to having to copy a common wd.env file every time to each machines's local user location)?

In fact can this folder be re-located anyway - or is it hard coded in?

There may be someone who knows more about this than me, but I used to have this folder on a network up through ACE2005. It seems to me that ACE2007 has to have this in the C:\Documents and Settings\{user Name]\My Documents\Acade 2007\AeData folder as that is the setup we use now. In addition to the WD.ENV file (not modified), we use a custom ENV file and just copy it into this folder. All of our project reference the custom ENV file so that we always get the network paths to all of our sturr. All of our symbols, menus, etc. are on a network so all users select from the same files.

Hi,

You can move this wd.env's location but you'll need to make sure that you
add a reference in your OPTIONS > FILES > SUPPORT FILE SEARCH PATH list of
paths to include the new path where this file is located. In addition, AcadE
uses the folder location of the wd.env file it finds as a reference point to
try to find some other folders that are underneath it. So, if you pick up
the folder that wd.env is in and all subfolders under it and move to some
new network location, the only change you SHOULD have to make (I believe),
is to add a reference in the "support file search path" list that points at
where wd.env has been moved to. Everything else should (I think) work
without further adjustments.

Nate is correct. I do this all the time when I am performing on-site
implementation. Place the AcadE 2007 folder and all sub-folders on your
network drive. Right-click on the command line in AcadE and select Options.
Go to the left-most tab, marked Files. Expand the Support File Search Path
and add the path to the networked AcadE 2007 folder. AcadE will find this
new path, along with the wd.env, and it will execute accordingly.

Doug,

i've done exactly as you have said. i created a new project before i moved the folder, once the folder was moved i could only see the new project i had created and not the default projects that ship with acade. i desperately need my system to work this way as i have 3 of us using this software all with standalone licenses. all 3 of us need to see the same data e.g. cats, lib's and projects
Kind regards,
Johnny Battiste

I'm not sure what your problem is. I have been using the program in a
networked situation since 1997. I copy the My Documents\Acade2007\AeData
folder with all subfolders (i.e. Proj, Catalogs, and PLC) to the network. I
add the network path to the Search Path under Options. Click open project
and navigate to the network path and open your project. The project should
now look to the network path for catalogs, PLCs, etc. You can also open the
wd.env file that is parallel to the Proj folder and set the default project
path. Edit with Notepad or Wordpad.
