Inventor Cable and Harness and AutoCAD Electrical Question

I have worked through a tutorial using Inventor Cable and Harness with AutoCAD Electrical and it does seem to work slick.  I also created a small project from scratch without an issues.

Currently, we do all of our panel layout design work (within AutoCAD Electrical) in 2D.  To use Inventor Cable and Harness, wouldn't we need to convert to 3D?  And since we use a lot of the Electrical commands (schematic to panel, etc), would we have to lay the panel out in AutoCAD Electrical, and then finish up the cable and harness in Inventor?

Thanks,

Keith
